Ammendment

I just re-read my previous post, the one about the costume contest, and realized it didn't come off nearly as sarcastic as I would have liked.  Although, yes, I am a proud mama -- calling it a "pagent" was a joke.  I in no way intend to sign Maggie up for any Glitz pagent's any time soon.  And yes, I do think she is a star for many, many reasons, but in this particular post I meant to say SUPERSTAR... complete with jazz hands and catholic school uniform.  That is all.

Toddlers in Tiara's, Here we come!

Maggie participated in her first pagent this weekend - the Lindenhurst Fall Festival Costume Contest.  Like the little star I know she is, she waited in line with the 24 other three to five-year-old contestants, walked across the stage, stopped in the middle and answered the emcee's question, "Maggie, what is your costume?"

"I'm a pink flamingo!"

"Awwwwww," went the crowd.

I'm so proud of her for getting up on the stage and participating.  Sometimes I can't believe she's only three years old.  We talked a lot before she went on about how only a few people will get prizes, and we will be happy for whoever wins, and we'll have fun no matter what.  I was also talking to her about what she could do on the stage (I wanted her to be able to think about something up there, just in case she started getting scared), so I showed her where the judges were going to be sitting, and said she could wave at them, or blow a kiss, or flap her flamingo arms.  And you know what that little stinker did?  She actually blew them a kiss!  I just about fell off my bale of hay.  See, I told you, STAR!

Homemade costume from head to toe - she placed SECOND!  Congratulations Maggie!

Skinny Stash

Is there anything better than breaking into your stash of skinny clothes and realizing that most of them actually fit again?  NOT TODAY THERE ISN'T!  Woo Hoo!

I have one bin, one secret, sad, little bin of pre-kids clothes that I've been ignoring for the past four years.  Poor little bin, so alone in the closet, a veritable outcast in a room full of prom queens and student council presidents.  But today, all that changed... little bin finally had the courage to open up and show me what it's made of.  Turns out it's made of lots-o Banana Republic and J. Crew from about five to seven years ago (back when I didn't have kids and could actually enjoy spending money in Banana and J. Crew without being riddled with guilt).

Although most of the shirts were alarmingly short - which just goes to show you how styles really have changed since 2005 - most of the pants were still OK.  In fact, because they were all a little higher-waisted than most of the stylish pants that are made today, they actually work well twice.

Although these are by no means the pants of my "glory days" (college), when I was tiny and tight and could fit perfectly in a size six, I am beyond thrilled that these pants, beyond a doubt, confirm that I have lost allllllll the baby weight.  Finally!

When I Grow-Up

What does Maggie want to be when she grows up?  A doctor?  A vet?  A dancer?  A soccer player?  Nope, nope, nope and nope.  She wants to be a princess, and not just any princess... she wants to be Princess Aurora (sleeping beauty).  Hmmmm... I'd love to make all my baby's dreams come true, but this one will be a little tricky.  She does already have the regal countenance, yesterday she came up to me while I was changing Catie's diaper, flared her nightgown and curtsied, and then pranced off declaring, "Carry on!  Carry on!"
