Birthday Party Hilarity

This past weekend was Maggie's cousin's fourth birthday, and of course I have a silly story to tell from it.

Cousin C has a large wooden playset in his backyard, complete with steering wheel and ships telescope - so of course, it is a pirate ship... but not bad pirates, good pirates, the "bad guys" where chasing us. Cousin C announced that his two younger cousins, Maggie and H (same age) would be allowed to be his Matey's. And the two Matey's had jobs - one was to steer and the other had to watch out for bad guys. When bad guys were spotted Cousin C yelled "Oh no! We have to press the Ehn button!"

"The what button C?"

"The Ehn button... EHHN, EHHN, EHHN, EHHN, EHHN!" Imagine a noise similar to that which would eminate from the alarm on a nuclear power plant about to meltdown. Ohhh... the Ehn button, of course!

New Words

Maggie has some new words for you all. She's still missing a few consanents, but they're pretty close to the real deal...

Team Work

Can you say Daddy's Girl? I may get the pleasure of spending the day with her, but it's easily apparent who she prefers. They have their own version of teamwork these two... Daddy helps Maggie color her coloring book... and Maggie helps Daddy fix the dishwasher....

Baked Bean

Woo Hoo was it hot yesterday! I'm kind of a wimp about heat, but it didn't seem to bother the Bean any - even though it was hot and stormy all day long, she insisted on some play time with her new climber. Pictures for all the Grannys and Granpas...

Bloody Nose

Today my baby tried to shove my nose up into my brain and kill me. We were wrestling on the floor, laughing, having a grand old time, when all of a sudden she reached out and grabbed my nose and shoved her thumb up there and stabbed me. Damn that hurt! She gave me a bloddy nose! That girl does not know her own strength - which really is ideal for later years, fending off all those boyfriends.

Food

Who else could make Cheesy Noodles and Beef look so damn cute...

Flattery Will Get You Everywhere...

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Check out what Maggie insisted on bringing to the grocery store with us today. Her own little purse. With her own coupon inside.

Country People Sure are Nice!

We didn't exactly move to the country. At least not by my definition. Country to me means dirt roads and lots-o-corn, and people that say "howdy" a lot, and tornados... and an hours drive to the nearest Gap. Currently our new home does not match any of those criteria. HOWEVER - that will not stop me from jokingly, and lovingly, referring to our new village as "the country".

So... country people sure are nice! Maggie and I went to the grocery store this morning and everyone had a smile for us. It may have had something to do with the fact that my daughter says "Hi!" to every single person that crosses her path, but hey, I'll take a smile any day. Strangers were talking to us, baggers were offering to help us, it was like being in Oz or something - what is this strange place... oh that's right, it's The Country!

Miss Fix It...

Break out the baby tool belt. Like father, like daughter, Maggie is a fan of "fixin up". We took some time to tighten the bolts on her little picnic table today. It had gotten quite wobbly (as it has been used as a jungle gym for the past four days). She watched Mommy and Daddy for a few minutes, then picked up a discarded wrench and did some tightening of her own... or at least she thinks she did.

I promise, pics of the new house (occupied), soon... just have to get it to a point where it doesn't look like a volcano erupted first.

Oh, my aching feet!

My feet are killing me. Killing. Me. Moving day was this past Thursday, and thank god we hired awesome movers because I spent most of that day on my ass in the car driving to and from title companies, daycare, and the two houses. But yesterday was another story. I was up at 5am, couldn't sleep, and pretty much didn't stop moving until 10pm that night. The house is finally starting to look like ours, but GAWD I hate moving!

The new neighborhood seems nice. We've already had a bunch of the neighbors stop by to say hi, including Hope and Joy, the eight and six year old a few houses down. They wrote us a nice little note "Hope you like the neighborhood and hope you have an awesome summer, Sincerely Hope and Joy" and dropped it off last night. My reaction - now there's something you wouldn't get in the City (and get off of my porch!). Feel free to start humming the Green Acres theme now... you know I have.

The End.

Today is my last day at my office. I am officially a SAHM after today. Everyone keeps asking me how I feel. Is it weird that I really don't feel anything? I'm not really sad, or particularly happy for that matter. I guess if anything I'm feeling scared. I've had a job since I was 16 years old, and I've never quit a job before without having another one to go to. It's making me very ill at ease... but I'm sure that will pass. And it's not like I don't have work to do, even if it's not a job in the traditional sense. I've got Maggie all to myself now - I get to be teacher, care giver, nurse, and dance instructor all in one. I think that's actually contributing to my fear - like your first day starting a new job, my new job is full-time Mommy. There are things she learns at daycare right now that I wouldn't even have thought to teach her. I'm like the "intern" mommy, new at the mommy company. I have to learn from my superiors and climb the ladder before I'm "President" mommy. Overall, a very strange day for me. Maybe I'll be able to write a more coherent post about it next week, when I have some separation.

Finally!

As you may remember from a previous post, I received nothing more for Mother's Day than a "Happy Mother's Day, sorry I forgot to get you something." And I was none too pleased. A simple card, or grocery store flowers would have sufficed, but now that the mistake has been made the reparations must be much larger is scale. I would not expect a husband to acknowledge this fact, however. I mean, he could barely acknowledge the original event, what are the chances that he's really going to adequately make up for his snafu? Turns out chances are pretty damn great!! I just got the cooolest Forgotten-Mother's-Day present ever! A brand spankin' new Burberry watch! Woo hoo! The watch is lovely, something I may have actually picked out myself, so props to J for good taste, but I think the true gift here is the knowledge that my husband actually does listen to what I have to say (sometimes). We were driving home last weekend from Madison and chatting, and I said something about how I would like to get a nice watch sometime because now that I'm so aware of the baby's schedule (eat, poop, sleep, repeat) it would be really helpful to have one. And viola - now I have a watch! I'm so impressed, this really is sooo much better than some crappy fluorescent carnations from the Jewel. Honey, you can forget Mother's Day every year!

Emotional!

OK, you can tell you're too stressed out when you're almost in tears because your kid is late for breakfast. Traffic was a nightmare this morning, pouring rain, and Miss M was about a half-hour late for school - and missed breakfast. So here I am roaming around the hallways, desperatly trying to find a banana or a cherrio, or something for her to eat. Instead I find teacher D, and suddenly feel like I'm four years old, begging the teacher for a snack, ready to cry. What is wrong with me?

Today is just a very akward day in general - everything feels just a little off. Running late this morning, confusing final details for the move, I can't wait for this to be over - and to take a nice long bath in my new jetted tub :)

Belle of the Ball

New dancing video from a wedding this past weekend. Miss M was the star, everyone wondered how we got soooo lucky with such a well behaved, beautiful baby girl.... if only they could hear what I hear right now - a over-tired baby screaming her head off because she had to go to bed, they wouldn't be so impressed now! Check out the video...
